Changing CoolSpools Command Parameter Defaults
The IBM i Operating System provides the ability to amend default parameter values for any command on the server using CHGCMDDFT. A decision to use this feature is not something that should be taken lightly. Here are some considerations with specific reference to CoolSpools commands.
- CHGCMDDFT is an IBM i O/S command and is not part of the CoolSpools application, so its use is your own responsibility and is not covered by CoolSpools support.
- Should any issues arise as a direct result of CoolSpools command parameter defaults having been changed, CoolSpools support technicians may be unable to provide assistance.
- Once changed, there is no easy way to identify which command parameter defaults have been altered or their original system-supplied values.
- CoolSpools command parameters may revert to their original default values when a CoolSpools fix-pack or upgrade is applied and any changes you have made may be lost.
If you do choose to use CHGCMDDFT to amend CoolSpools command parameter default values then we strongly recommend that you maintain a record of the changes applied, ideally capturing each CHGCMDDFT command string within a CL program so that changes can be easily reapplied following application of an upgrade or fix-pack.
An example of the command syntax is given below:
CHGCMDDFT CMD(CVTSPLPDF) NEWDFT('STMFOPT(*REPLACE)')
Sites using the CoolSpools SpoolAdmin command WRKSPLFPDM to execute CoolSpools commands have an alternative approach available, as the default command strings used by each WRKSPLFPDM option can be altered using command WRKSTDOPT USER(*SYSDFT)
