CoolSpools and OS/400 V6 and V7 (IBM i 6.1 and 7.1-7.4)
FAQ: CoolSpools and IBM i OS V6 or V7
I'm upgrading IBM i OS (OS/400) to V6R1M0/V7R4M0: do I need a special version?
No, there is no special version of our software needed to run on these versions of the IBM i OS. The currently supported versions of CoolSpools have been certified to run on all IBM i operating system releases from V6R1M0 to V7R4M0 (IBM i 6.1 to 7.4).
Do I need to apply PTFs/fixes before I upgrade?
As a general principle we do recommend remaining up to date with fix pack releases, but there is no specific requirement to install a CoolSpools fix pack prior to a hardware migration or operating system upgrade.
Object Conversion
Some operating system upgrades (for example, from an earlier release to OS/400 V6R1M0) involve object conversions for all system objects, and CoolSpools programs will be subject to object conversion as part of your upgrade.
You can either use the STROBJCVN command against our product libraries or, if you are restoring objects to a new system, use the option to carry out conversion on the restore operation (RSTOBJ ... FRCOBJCVN(*YES) etc.).
See the IBM Information Center for further details.
I'm upgrading my IBM i OS (OS/400) - do I need a new license key?
You should only need new license keys when the serial number and/or LPAR number of your system changes as part of a hardware swap or upgrade. If all you're doing is upgrading the operating system, no new license key should be needed.
However, it does happen occasionally that customers find they are told their license keys have expired after an IBM i O/S upgrade. We believe that happens if a scratch install is done or if library QUSRSYS (where OS/400 stores its license keys) gets overwritten or restored as part of the upgrade. If that does happen, you just need to re-enter your original license keys by re-running the ADDLICKEY command you were sent when you first purchased the license.
If you no longer have a note of your license key(s), just contact our support team and ask for a reminder.
Good luck with your upgrade!
